THE FD444 SET IS COMPREHENSIVE PROTECTION OF YOUR WATER SYSTEM AGAINST INSOLVABLE POLLUTANTS, CORROSION AND FORMING OF DEPOSITS IN AND ON FITTINGS. The set includes FD406 and FD244

FD406 DISPENSER - WATER SOFTENER + 2 cartridges.

- FERDOM FD406 dispensers prevent scale and deposits and protect water installations against corrosion.
- They protect boilers, heat exchangers, heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, etc., prevent deposits in and on fittings.
- The dispenser doses minimal amounts of the preparation from the cartridge (4mg/1m3) with a chelating and sequestering action.
- Two cartridges are included for approximately 40m3, (FD405) spare cartridges available. Easy control of consumption and replacement of the product.
- The country where this type of device is most commonly used is Italy, where most of the territory has very hard water.
- FD406 is currently the cheapest device on the market to prevent the damaging effects of sludge and scale on the boiler and heat exchangers.

DISPENSER - PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

FERDOM FD406 anti-sludge and anti-corrosion dosing device proportionally doses FD405 preparation (Italian production), which thanks to its composition, creates microscopic and anti-sludge membrane on metal surfaces, thus water has limited contact with metal surfaces. At the same time the preparation creates a colloidal suspension which does not allow the precipitation of calcium and magnesium ions (deposits). The preparation is dosed in microscopic amounts. It is manufactured on the basis of food preparations.

DISPENSERS - INSTALLATION AND USE

FERDOM dispensers are installed on the cold water supply before the equipment we want to protect e.g. boiler, heater, washing machine, dishwasher, bathroom taps etc. Model FD406 has a built-in By-Pass Valve which allows you to cut off the water supply when replacing the product, so it can be mounted without shut-off valves. Model FD406 can be mounted vertically or horizontally to pipes. After unscrewing the 4 screws we disconnect the connector from the Dispenser, which can be set in vertical or horizontal position according to the water flow direction (see picture).

WATER HARDNESS - IMPACT ON THE SYSTEM AND FITTINGS

In most parts of Poland (over 50%) water is hard or very hard. This has the following consequences; failures of boilers, heaters, heating systems, fittings, household appliances etc. Sediments in boilers, heat exchangers also increase heating costs.
Many manufacturers of fittings (e.g. central heating boilers) recommend water treatment regardless of its hardness, but require water to be treated when its hardness exceeds 15°dh (hard/b.hard water).
Hardness also causes stubborn deposits on faucets, sanitary fittings and shower cubicles and increases the expenditure on washing and cleaning products.

WATER HARDNESS - HOW DEPOSITS FORM AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM

Water hardness results from the sum of calcium and magnesium salts, which, as a result of raising temperatures, cause the formation of the so-called scale deposits, especially in places where there is the greatest thermal shock, such as boilers, exchangers, pipes, etc. This is caused by a chemical reaction which results in the formation of calcium carbonate and carbon dioxide. The calcium carbonate precipitates, causing incrustations and blockages in the fittings, while the carbon dioxide produced triggers the corrosion process.
FERDOM sodium polyphosphate cartridges have an anti-corrosive and anti-sedimentation function - they form a microscopic and anti-sedimentation film on the walls of fittings and pipes and at the same time they cause a colloidal suspension process that prevents the precipitation of calcium and magnesium ions. By stopping the precipitation of ions, the amount of deposits and the amount of CO2 formation, responsible for the formation of corrosion, is reduced.

WATERCLEAN FD244 Pre-filter, 40-60μm, inox mesh surface 90cm2
- Reusable filter, thanks to a durable SS316L stainless steel cartridge, ensures durability for several years.
- To be used with utility or technical water.
- Accurate filtration 40/60μm at high flow, thanks to the use of a large mesh with filtration area of 90cm2, diameter 33mm (twice as big as the standard 42cm2).
- The larger surface area allows the filter to function properly in more polluted water and reduces the frequency of cleaning.
- Use for water from own well or mains. Flow rate max 3,5m3/hour.
- The filter protects fittings such as water meters, washing machines, dishwashers, bathroom and kitchen faucets against insoluble impurities.
- Recommended use as the first filter (pre-filter) before sensitive fittings such as softeners, iron removers, osmosis stations, etc.
- If the water quality is very bad with large impurities, it is recommended to install between the main shut-off valve and this filter, another pre-filter with a larger micron rating of 90 μm to retain the largest particles (FERDOM FD177 /178 /180).
- Spin Down filter type - when the drain valve is opened, the vortex of mains water moving downwards cleans the cartridge and removes the collected impurities.
- Easy installation to the water supply system by means of a 1/2" (DN15)
- Larger surface area allows the filter to function properly in more polluted water and reduces the frequency of cleaning.
- Transparent casing allows for easy checking of the condition of the mesh inside the filter.

Filter operation
The principle of the pre-filter operation is the separation in the flowing water (filtration principle) of insoluble impurities with a fraction larger than (40/60µm). The smaller the micron rating, the more effective the filtration, but the greater the pressure loss across the filter. In the case of the FD244 filter, thanks to a larger filtering surface (as much as 90 cm2), it was possible to use a cartridge with a finer mesh without losing any pressure. The cartridge is reusable and is cleaned of retained sediment during the manual rinsing phase (Spin Down)

Assembly and use
Easy installation into the water supply system. The pipes must be in a horizontal line so that the filter is mounted in a vertical position. Place of installation behind the stopcock of the water supply to the building or flat.
Regular service consists in checking the level of contamination of the filter cartridge (the casing is transparent) and, if contamination is visible, unscrewing the drain valve. This is done without turning off the water supply, the pressure of which when the drain valve is open pushes out the impurities from the filter and rinses out its cartridge/filter screen. When the drain valve is closed again, the filter returns to the operating cycle.
Occasional maintenance consists of mechanical cleaning of the filter mesh or its replacement (once every few years). For this operation it is necessary to turn off the water supply and unscrew the housing from the head.
Installation of shut-off valves recommended but not necessary (the water supply rarely needs to be shut off).

Recommended use:
- In domestic water supply systems (main use).
- Selected industrial applications.
The pre-filter protects household fittings from insoluble impurities from the water mains or your own water supply (sand, rust, small particles of sealing elements, etc.).
In particular, it protects household appliances (washing machine, dishwasher), ceramic heads in bathroom and kitchen faucets, heads of water treatment devices (e.g. softener, de-icer, etc.).
Recommended use as the first filter (pre-filter) before sensitive fittings such as softeners, deaerators, osmosis stations, etc. This increases durability of subsequent filters in the filtration line, which may have a micron rating e.g. from 1 to 40 microns and may quickly become clogged with larger contaminants or damaged.

Filter construction
The pre-filter has a brass head with external thread connections 1/2" (DN15) .
The filter housing/dome is made of clear, impact resistant synthetic material allowing for a simple inspection of the degree of contamination of the cartridge.
Inside the housing there is a durable and long-lasting filter cartridge made of stainless steel SS316L ensuring low operating costs as it needs to be replaced only every few years.
At the bottom of the housing there is a drain valve to which a drain hose (100 cm long included) should be connected and discharged into e.g. the sewer/drain. A service spanner is included for unscrewing / screwing the housing.

FD244 pre-filter operation principle

It is the separation in the flowing water (by filtration) of insoluble sediments with a fraction larger than 40/60μm. The cartridge is reusable and cleans itself from sediments during the manual rinsing phase (Spin Down)
