PC302N 'KAMCO' ADAPTER For Connecting The Cleaning Pump Hoses To The Impeller Body Of The CH System
PC302N CONNECTION ADAPTOR "KAMCO" IN THE PLACE OF THE CIRCULATION PUMP.
Connection adaptor allowing to connect the hoses of the cleaning pump with the body of the central heating pump in the boiler or central heating installation.
After removing the circulating pump motor (head), the adaptor is installed in its place for the cleaning period. The spigots allow the hoses of the cleaning pump to be connected. The adaptor allows boilers or even the whole system to be cleaned without having to 'bypass' the circulator pump, while ensuring the pump itself is well cleaned of swarf and rust.
The PC302N adaptor has been designed primarily for Grundfos Selectric and combination boiler pumps, but will fit many other units including some Myson, Terrier, Circulator Pumps Ltd and Wilo Gold models.
Kit includes:
1) Adapter body with 3/4" brass couplings;
a) fixed side
b) adjustable centre
2) 2 0.5m adapter hoses 4 x M5, 3/4"
3) 6 x M6 allen screws
4) Hex key to adjust centre coupling
5) Large O-ring to seal pump body
6) Small O-ring to seal pump chambers
Plastic container to carry kit
Before you start:
Switch off or electrically disconnect the existing circulating pump and secure the cable and connectors. Protect the area around the pump from water leakage.
Close the circulation pump isolation valves, bearing in mind that it is not unusual for the valves not to be completely sealed even though they are apparently fully closed.
Procedure:
1. Loosen the allen screws and carefully remove the circulation pump head and motor assembly, leaving the circulation pump body normally installed.
2. When removing the pump head, a small amount of water (from the pump itself and from the pipework) should be safely collected in the container provided.
3. Clean any loose rust from the inside of the circulating pump casing with a cloth. Make sure the surfaces where the O-rings will adhere are clean.
4. Fit the small O-ring (6) onto the centre fitting - a small amount of silicone sealant or grease may be used to prevent the O-ring from falling off.
5. Fit the large O-ring (5) onto the adapter. Tighten the adapter body with the allen screws provided.Use a spanner to tighten the bolts firmly and evenly.
6. Using the hex key supplied for the centre connector (1B), tighten it carefully, until the small O-ring (6) is sealed . NOTE: Do not over tighten as this may damage the O-rings or the main body of the adaptor.
7. Connect the hoses to the adaptor and to the hoses of the /cleaningpump.
8. Open the isolation valves on the cleaning pump.
9. Slowly open the isolation valves onthe circulating pump and check the adaptor and all hoses for leaks.
10. Turn on the flushing pump for approximately 5 seconds and recheck the system for leaks. Carry out the flushing procedure as recommended.
Special care must be taken to avoid leaks and water splashes when using the adaptor in the circulation pump located in the boiler housing, due to the proximity of sensitive electronics and PCBs.
Use only chemical resistant O-rings. Never add chemicals until you have checked the system for leaks.
Proceeding when flushing a system with a combination boiler:
Once the radiator circuit has been flushed, turn off the hot water tap so that the boiler directs flow through the plate heat exchanger and the boiler fires up.
If the fluid in the aggregate/pump cleaner tank reaches 50oC , turn off the boiler until it cools down.
Note: Some boilers only allow flow in one direction in hot water mode.
Add the cleaner following the chemical manufacturer's recommendations, changing the direction of flowregularly .
Set the pump/aggregate to dump mode and dump (in both directions if possible) until the dump water is clear.
While this procedure for flushing the plate heat exchanger feed can be performed as a stand-alone procedure without flushing the feed to the rest of the heating system, we always recommend flushing the feed to the entire system when the heat exchanger is blocked.
If this is not done, there is a high probability that the heat exchanger will become blocked again in the future, as contaminants from the system will be transferred to the heatexchanger with normal flow and boiler operation.
Note 1: To achieve the maximum flow rate around the system during pressure flushing, the number of kinks and restrictions should be kept to a minimum and pipe diameters should be as large as possible.
Note 2: Be cautious when using dual purpose boilers such as Worcester, Bosch Heatslave and others that have valves that only allow flow in one direction.
Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions before use.
Engineering Tip
With some pumps it can be difficult toachieve a seal on the large outer 'O' ring . In such cases, the addition of a standard Grundfos flat "O" ring attached to the CP2 body may enable a seal to be made. Flat O-rings can be easily removed from any new or used Grundfos pump head.
